For Patients

The PREDICT test is a lab test that is used to help you and your provider understand the best medicine for you.

Not all people respond to medicines the same way. Some people respond well to certain medicines, while others can be at risk for side-effects. Your genes can affect how you respond to different medicines. Understanding how your genes can impact your medications is broadly called ‘pharmacogenomics’ or ‘PGx’ for short. The picture below shows how people with the same medical issue (called a diagnosis) can have different results, even though they are given the same medicine. Some of the differences in how individuals respond to medicines is caused by their genes. Many factors, including the PREDICT test, may help you and your provider understand whether a medicine is right for you.
